St. Charles, MD (January 9, 2013) –Lennar Corporation and Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today the third annual St. Charles Running Festival Presented by Lennar will take place on April 13, 2013. The festival will consist of three different distances (10 miles, 5k and a kids fun run) and proceeds from the event will benefit the College of Southern Maryland.

“We are proud to once again sponsor what has become one of the premier events in Southern Maryland,” said Doug Marcinski, sales manager for Lennar. “Not only does the event attract more and more participants, it helps fund Special Olympics and youth athletics programs in our community, and this year will benefit the College of Southern Maryland as well. We're looking forward to a great event for our runners, and for our partners.”

The festival will lead runners throughout the roads of Charles County with Regency Furniture Stadium serving as the focal point. The scenic and mostly flat 10-mile course has runners starting at Regency Furniture Stadium, then proceeding north up Piney Church Road, west on Billingsley Road, and south on St. Charles Parkway. The second half of the race continues south on Radio Station Road, east on to La Plata Rd, then back on to Piney Church Road once again before finishing outside of the stadium.

The 5k course starts and finishes at the stadium and ventures through the neighborhoods on Piney Church Rd. The Chick-fil-A Kids Fun Run will be contained within the parking lots of the stadium. The day's events coincide with the annual Fan Fest celebration hosted by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

This year the St. Charles Running Festival welcomes the College of Southern Maryland as a new partner.  “The College of Southern Maryland is grateful to the sponsors of  the St. Charles Running Festival for supporting our students and our athletic programs. CSM provides students with the opportunity to continue academic careers while building and refining their leadership and athletic skills, close to home. As a result, our students are able to thrive and succeed in a supportive and inspiring learning environment,” said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried.

“We are excited about the 2013 St. Charles Running Festival and an event that benefits the local Charles County charities can only be an advantage to the county,” said Candice Quinn Kelly, president, Charles County Board of Commissioners.  “The festival is a wonderful way to showcase our county and provide a boost for the county’s tourism and economic development efforts.”

“St. Charles is happy to once again host this event,' said Craig J. Renner, vice president for marketing and public relations of The St. Charles Companies.  “It's a challenging course, the race is well organized, and all attendees can enjoy a full day of activities with the Blue Crabs' fan fest. We hope runners and non-runners alike will mark their calendars for April 13.”

“The third annual “Kid’s Fun Run” sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Charles County will be the best yet!” stated John Flatley, owner/operator of the La Plata location. “We view this as another great opportunity to encourage healthy lifestyles for children and provide an opportunity for families to play together in our community.”

The county and event sponsors have once again partnered with Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE), the same sports marketing and event management company that puts on the extremely successful Baltimore Running Festival, to help stage a first-class event. The 2012 Baltimore Running Festival attracted nearly 27,000 runners from every state and generated more than $38M in economic impact.

CSE President Lee Corrigan said, “Our running festival format has proven to be wildly successful for more than a decade. We have established a great event in Charles County and will build on the momentum in year three.”

Entry fees for the three races are $55 for the 10-Miler, $25 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids Fun Run prior to March 1. After that the 10-Miler fees increase to $65 and the 5K increases to $30.   For more information or to register visit www.stcharlesrunfest.com or call 410.605.9381.
