CSM Presents Co’Motion Dance Theater. 8 p.m., April 12, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road. Hailing from central Iowa, Co’Motion Dance Theater presents diverse programming designed to be accessible yet offering new ideas to audiences of all ages and all levels of dance experience. A quirky sense of humor, not always associated with this art form, distinguishes many of choreographer Valerie Williams’ works. Other dances, more serious and reflective, provide audiences with opportunities for introspective contemplation. Renaissance Festival Commenceth: CSM Chorale Concert. 8 p.m., April 18, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road. In the spring, the Chorale will be collaborating with the theater program for the Renaissance Festival, a two-day festival of period plays and music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. CSM Renaissance Festival. 9 a.m.- 9 p.m., April 19-20, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road. Enjoy a full day of activities and entertainment as CSM presents its first Renaissance Festival. Inside the theatre, the CSM Theatre Company will present six different Medieval/Renaissance plays, each intended for a particular audience (G rated – R rated) including “The Creation of Adam and Eve,” “Noah’s Flood,” “The Second Shepherd’s Pageant,” “The Creation and the Fall of Lucifer,” “Everyman” and “The Harrowing of Hell.” Additional activities will take place outdoors in the vicinity of the Fine Arts (FA) Building. Admission to the festival is free; $10 wristbands will be sold in order to gain admittance to all age-appropriate plays throughout the day. All other refreshments, activities, games, etc. are either free or priced by the vendor. CSM is currently seeking vendors including period foods, arts, crafts, games, jugglers and magicians to participate. The transition of the seasons with an emphasis on spring and summer, are featured in dance and music. The changes and colors of the seasons, and life’s rhythms will be featured in dances including further exploration by the Dance Ensemble Tchaikovsky’s ballets with excerpts from “The Sleeping Beauty” as well as modern dance performances. CSM’s music program welcomes the Southern Maryland Concert Band (SMCB), under the direction of Michael Peerless. CSM Presents U.S. Navy Band “Sea Chanters.” 7:30 p.m., May 10, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road. The “Sea Chanters” is the official chorus of the United States Navy. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including the sea chantey, to Broadway musicals. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Georgina L. Todd, the “Sea Chanters” appear throughout the United States and often perform at the White House, the Vice President's home and for other Washington dignitaries. Free with reservations encouraged.
