Mobile Phone Photography. 6 to 9 p.m., May 6-8, College of Southern Maryland, Building A, Room 204, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick. Photography instructor Guy Stephens, former president of the Calvert County Photographers Club, will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones as cameras and how mobile phones are changing camera technology. Students will investigate different types of apps and will add to their mobile phone photography abilities. $59. Intro to Hiking & Backpacking. 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays/Thursdays, June 3-19, College of Southern Maryland, Building A, Room 236, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick. This class is for people with limited experience in the outdoors. Topics will include preparation for outdoor activities, basic equipment for hiking and camping, 13 essential items for hiking and backpacking, introduction to survival skills, basic map reading and land navigation, outdoor knots, trip preparation and meal planning. $159. Secrets to Turkish Cooking. 1 to 4 p.m., April 26, North Point High School, 2500 Davis Road, Waldorf. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners to experienced foodies. This class will concentrate on the traditional cuisine of Turkey using its exotic array of spices and flavorings along with fresh ingredients, including lean meats and vegetables. $59. Italian Desserts. 1 to 4 p.m., April 26, Carmike Kitchens, 9375 Chesapeake Street, Suite 125, La Plata. Learn how to make the best selection of traditional Italian desserts – items like Tiramisu', Torta alle pere and Torta Margherita. This is a demonstration cooking class with student participation encouraged. Taught by a native Italian cooking instructor. $59. Kayak 101. 6 to 8 p.m., Mondays/Wednesdays, May 12-21. Greenwell State Park, 25420 Rosedale Manor Lane, Hollywood. Taught on the calm waters of local waterways, learn basic techniques like lifejacket fitting, safety, rescue, judgment and boat maneuvering. Must be 16 years old to register. $159.
