U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) officials visited the College of Southern Maryland’s Center for Transportation Training on Radio Station Road in La Plata in June to observe students in the classroom, and on the range and highway. The FMCSA is the federal agency responsible for safety regulations covering the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) industry and commercial driver’s license holders and we are pleased they chose to visit CSM to learn more about our training program, said CSM Transportation Programs Director Mary Beth McCollum. FMCSA’s mission is to promote safe commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operations and reduce large truck and bus crashes, injuries and fatalities through education, regulation, enforcement, research and innovative technology. CSM Lead CDL Instructor Eric Mac McCollum, center, prepares to take FMCSA officials for a test drive on the truck driving range.
