National Players at CSM: Of Mice and Men. 8 p.m., Oct. 7, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts Center, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. The College of Southern Maryland presents the National Players as they perform John Steinbeck’s, “Of Mice and Men.” In this tragic and endearing story, the audience follows the mismatched friendship of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers in Depression-Era California. Small George has big dreams and a tiny frame, while the large but simple Lennie seeks the comfort of everyday little pleasures. Just as George's dreams seem within reach, his compassion is tested through Lennie's mistakes. What makes true men and what makes true friends? The National Players were founded to stimulate young people’s higher thinking skills and imaginations by presenting classical plays in surprisingly accessible ways. This mission is as urgent and vital today as it was 63 years ago. Shown are Michael Pettey as George and Mat Leonard as Lennie in The National Players production of “Of Mice and Men,” directed by Jason King Jones. Photo by Madeleine Russell. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, military members with ID and youth in highschool or below. Reserved seating performance. Reserve early for best seat selection. bxoffc@csmd.edu, 301-934-7828, or www.csmd.edu/arts.
