CSM Theatre Company Presents Fall Musical, ‘Miss Saigon’ Nov. 9-11, 16-18

Cast members of the CSM Theatre Company will present the story of star-crossed lovers Kim and Chris in the college’s fall musical

A timeless tale of star-crossed lovers comes to the stage when the College of Southern Maryland’s Theatre Company presents its fall musical production of “Miss Saigon” Nov. 9-11 and 16-18.

Written by Alain Boubil and Claude Michel Schönberg, “Miss Saigon” tells the story of Kim, a young Vietnamese girl, and Chris, an American Marine, who meet and fall in love in the days before the fall of Saigon. Separated by the war, they reunite three years later with the help of the Engineer, an opportunist with big dreams, and John, a former military buddy. Kim and Chris must deal with how their lives and the lives of those around them have been forever changed by the war.

Since its London premiere at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1989, “Miss Saigon” has been performed in more than 18 countries and in nine different languages, and has won more than 30 awards including three Tony Awards. Based loosely on David Belasco’s play “Madame Butterfly,” which Giacomo Puccini later re-wrote as an opera, “Miss Saigon” is a story of love, greed, war and the ultimate sacrifice.

CSM’s cast includes Alex La Clair of La Plata as Chris, Sarah Greenhorn of Brandywine as Kim, Andrew Whetzel of Waldorf as the Engineer and Brandon Jones-Chase of Waldorf as John.

Performances are Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5. For information or reservations, call the Box Office, 301-934-7828, 301-870-2309, 240-725-5499 or 443-550-6199, Ext 7828, e-mail bxoffc@csmd.edu or visit www.csmd.edu/finearts.
