The College of Southern Maryland’s Theatre Company presents its cast for the musical production “Darfur: The Greatest Show on Earth,” written by Jonathan Fitts and to be performed in July as part of the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C.

The play is a series of vignettes presented in the form of a three-ring circus. One story tells of Piotr, a Nazi soldier, who finds a dark-skinned boy who has never seen snow before, outside of his compound.  Another vignette is about Omar, leader of a band of Janjaweed militias on a genocide mission, and how he falls in love with a woman from Darfur that he is supposed to kill. Leading the circus-like atmosphere is the character of the Master of Ceremonies, who is offset by an anxious, lawsuit-minded esoteric.  At times the stories are independent of each other and at other times they overlap, but the combined vignettes address the issues of war, hate, racism, genocide and love, according to Keith Hight, CSM’s technical director.

CSM’s cast includes Kenny Waters of Waldorf as the Master of Ceremonies, Anna Bonnet of White Plains as the Esoteric, and Kahriq Salil of Waldorf as Omar. Other cast members include Rami Essa of Waldorf as Sola, Felicia Spruill of White Plains as Diana, the Nazis chorus and the Janjaweed ensemble.
