CSM Strong; Give to the Max on Nov. 9

Demonstrate the Power of One to Make Southern Maryland 2,000 Stronger

For the College of Southern Maryland the hope is that its campaign as part of the first “Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington” will be contagious, and that there is no limit to the thousands of students, friends and families who will unite online on Nov 9 through their favorite social media sites to raise funds for their community college. By being involved in the first “Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington” event CSM hopes to capture some of the $3 million projected to be raised during this  massive one-day online fundraiser that will unite local Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC non-profits .

“Give to the Max will be CSM’s first large-scale attempt at uniting our students, faculty and friends online using Facebook, Twitter and Linked In, to raise fans and funds for the college,” said Michelle Goodwin, CSM’s vice president of advancement. ”We’re asking everyone in the Southern Maryland community to join us online at our website, our Facebook, or Tweet us and become part of CSM history. Serving more than 24,000 residents this past year and recognizing the thousands of alums and supporters in the region, our goal of raising 2,000 supporters in 24 hours should be easy and fun.”

All who donate to CSM online at www.csmd.edu/Foundation on Nov. 9 will be able to direct their donations to specific programs, including support for the trades and energy programs, athletics, the theater scholarship, the CSM Heroes Campaign, Southern Maryland Studies Center, general scholarships, Adjunct Faculty Scholarship, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives.

“This one-day blitz will dramatically demonstrate the power of one. With each one of us giving at least $10 and then challenging our friends and family to join us on Nov. 9 to help make CSM Strong, together we will impact all of our community in making Southern Maryland stronger. Our goal is for 2,000 people give to the max to CSM on Nov. 9,” said CSM Foundation Chair Jay Lilly.

As part of “Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington,” nonprofits can also earn their share of $125,000, including up to $25,000 for nonprofits with the most individual donors and the most money donated. The individuals who bring the most donors on behalf of their cause can add an extra $10,000 to their donation.

“Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington” was created by online fundraiser Razoo, and organized and supported by The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and United Way of the National Capital Area. The other six members of the “Eight Neighbors” group, an alliance of local leading nonprofit and civic organizations,  have also come together to support this event: Center for Nonprofit Advancement, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Leadership Greater Washington, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington and the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers. The Case Foundation is the Social Impact Partner of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington.

“On Nov. 9, we want people to support their favorite local nonprofits by donating, fundraising and spreading the word,” said Lesley Mansford, CEO of Razoo.com. “In Minnesota, Razoo has held two separate Give to the Max days and helped 4,000 nonprofits raise a total of $24 million! Those kinds of funds are desperately needed in this region.”
