CSM Hosts STEM Night for Girl Scout Troop 196

Cadettes from Girl Scout Troop 196, of Bryans Road, met at CSM’s La Plata Campus Oct. 25, 2019 to learn that problem-solving can be fun and to earn their Robotic Badges in Mechanical Engineering.

“Friday Night Lights” took on all new meaning for Girl Scout Troop 196, of Bryans Road, when they spent their troop meeting with College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Engineering Club and Pre-Engineering Coordinator Jehnell Linkins to learn about the exciting and fun things happening in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Cadettes met at CSM’s La Plata Campus Oct. 25, to learn that problem-solving can be fun and to earn their Robotic Badges in Mechanical Engineering.

CSM Engineering Club President Julia Czecha, an electrical engineering major and a member of the CSM’s competitive robotics team of the Talons, joined Linkins and CSM Adjunct Faculty Member Jehnae Linkins, to also teach the Girl Scouts about exciting engineering opportunities and classes at CSM.

With a focus on engaging, educating and employing a future pipeline for a highly skilled and competitive workforce, CSM is a valuable resource for parents, students and employers. Partners, including the naval installations, the boards of education, colleges, career centers, private industry, civic organizations, and professional associations, have collaborated with CSM to coordinate efforts from grade school through college in order to ensure a highly skilled workforce that can be employed locally to lead our region into the future.
