CSM Hawktoberfest Highlights Athletics, Alumni, Oct. 12

The College of Southern Maryland’s Office of Student Life and Athletics presents the inaugural Hawktoberfest, an alumni and athletics festival beginning at 10 a.m. at the La Plata Campus on Oct. 12. Hawktoberfest sporting events and activities include a co-ed alumni soccer game, men’s and women’s soccer, a volleyball tri-match, baseball and softball games and a CSM Athletics yard sale where jerseys from past CSM teams will be available for purchase. Members of CSM’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams will wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, and festival attendees are encouraged to wear pink as well.

The concession stands will be open for food and drink, and the CSM La Plata Student Association will provide funnel cakes for $1 or free to those with CSM student IDs.

CSM athletes will be on hand, working in support of the event. Local high school sports teams as well as youth clubs are expected to attend. “Hawktoberfest is a great way to show the community all that we have to offer as well as showcasing the abilities and talents of our student athletes. They want the opportunity to show their CSM pride,” said CSM Athletic Coordinator Nick Williams.

Representatives from CSM’s Wellness, Fitness and Aquatics Center will also be at Hawktoberfest to accept registrations for the upcoming Turkey Trot 5K and 1-Mile Walk which takes place at 9 a.m. on Nov. 24 at the La Plata Campus. Pre-registration for the 5K is $25, $15 for seniors and children under 12. Registration for the 1 mile walk is $15. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the American Cancer Society and the CSM Foundation.
