It was an evening of art and entertainment as the College of Southern Maryland Foundation raised more than $36,000 at its Second Annual Celebration of the Arts at the Prince Frederick Campus on Sept. 22. “Celebration in its second year has proved a tremendous success. A community is reliant not only upon its industry and technology but also upon the vibrancy of its cultural base. Furthering the talents of emerging student artists in the tri-county area enriches the lives of all who live in or visit Southern Maryland,” said Rene Cunningham, CSM Foundation director and chair of this year’s event.

With more than 160 attending the celebration, the evening featured the Russell Wilson Trio, the Calvert Dance Band, Donna Snead on harp, and Sheldon Goldberg on piano with Ramona Crowley as soprano soloist. Jane Loughran, CSM’s development director, described the event as “a wonderful opportunity to showcase the artistic talent of members of the Southern Maryland community. Works by emerging artists, many of whom attend local high schools or the College of Southern Maryland, were displayed throughout the campus. The silent auction provided guests with the opportunity to bid on works by professional artists, and the musical performances rounded out a beautiful evening.”

Proceeds from the event benefit the CSM Foundation’s Fund for the Arts, which provides financial support to expand CSM’s cultural offerings. “We want the community to think of the College of Southern Maryland as a cultural center and a place where they can develop their talents through education in the arts,” Loughran said.

Premier sponsor for the event was Prince George’s Equestrian Center. Superior sponsors were Bayside Toyota, Evelyn Hungerford, PNC Bank and Calvert Memorial Hospital. Elite sponsors included Cunningham and Gerry Van De Velde; Davis Upton & Palumbo, LLC; Andrew T. Gergely M.D. and Associates, LLC; Maredith Management; St. Clair and Mary Tweedie; Asbury Solomons and Community Bank of Tri-County. Grand level sponsors included Carrie Polk-Nationwide Insurance and Financial Services; Comcast, County First Bank; Kaine Homes, Reynolds and Manning P.A., The Barbara Beers Team REMAX 100, Kathleen Winn, and Diana and Joseph Doswell.
