The College of Southern Marylands Cause Theatre presents A Piece of My Heart, the powerful, true drama of six women who went to Vietnam during the Vietnam War with portrayals of each before, during and after her time in the war-torn nation. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 18 in the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata.
CSMs Cause Theatre produces challenging and timely pieces that address social and health issues to create a forum for examining societal attitudes and behaviors.
A Piece of My Heart, written by Shirley Lauro, follows five nurses and a country western singer booked by an unscrupulous agent to entertain the troops. The play follows the woman over the years, culminating as each leaves a personal token at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
First published in 1988, the play has since been performed in more than 2,000 productions around the world and was described by the Vietnam Veterans of America Organization as the most enduring play in the nation on Vietnam.
The cast for A Piece of My Heart includes Katie Fisher of La Plata as Martha, Alexis Miller of Upper Marlboro as Maryjo, Amanda Connelley of Bryans Road as Sissy, and Rebecca Polis as Whitney, Anna Henry as Leeann, Taeijana Curtis as Steele, all of Waldorf. Cast member Alex La Clair is from La Plata.
This production contains strong adult language and content and may not be suitable for younger audiences. Tickets are $5 for all ages.
