First CSM Fall Production Combines Morals, Dark Ages, Comedy

The College of Southern Maryland’s Theatre presents “Incorruptible,” a play which follows a traveling one-eyed con artist at a decrepit medieval monastery in France during the Dark Ages. The play will open at 7 p.m., Sept. 18 with additional performances at 7 p.m., Sept. 25, and 6:30 p.m., Sept. 20 and 26-27. All performances will take place on the La Plata Campus in the Fine Arts (FA) Center, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata.

“Incorruptible,” which was written in 1996 by Michael Hollinger, takes place in Priseaux, France, c. 1250 AD. In the play, local monks are trying to serve parishioners who are going through difficult times—floods, fire and hunger—while they themselves are in dire straits. In a time when nobody's heard of the wheelbarrow and the local patron saint hasn't worked a miracle in 13 years, the monks look for a way to restore their monastery to its former glory. All seems lost until the destitute monks take a lesson from a larcenous one-eyed minstrel, who teaches them an outrageous new way to pay old debts.

Playing Jack, the devious minstrel, is Thomas Donohue of Waldorf. Monks are played by Cody Hight of King George, Greg Kenney of Waldorf, Ken La Clair of La Plata and Robert Norman of Alexandria. Amber Peterson and Jhonni Jones, of Waldorf, and Carol Charnock of La Plata round out the cast.

“Incorruptible” is the first play of CSM’s fall season. Tickets for the Sept. 18 and 25 shows are $15. Dessert will be served at these shows. Tickets for the Sept. 20 and Sept. 26-27 shows are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors/military with ID and $15 for children 12 and under. Dinner and dessert will be served.
