CSM Ward Virts Concert Series: Brian Ganz, classical piano. 3 p.m., Oct. 4. College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus, Building B, Multipurpose Room, 115 J.W. Williams Road, Prince Frederick. Brian Ganz is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Ganz has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the St. Louis Symphony, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony, the National Philharmonic, the National Symphony and the City of London Sinfonia. Ganz is on the piano faculty of St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he is artist-in-residence, and is a member of the piano faculty of the Peabody Conservatory. He is the artist-editor of the “Schirmer Performance Edition of Chopin's Preludes,” (2005). Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Limited seating. CSM Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery: Christopher Scott Dolan's “Landscapes of the District and Southern Maryland.” Sept. 12 to Oct. 2. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Christopher Dolan uses direct observation of the urban and semi-urban landscape to create densely layered paintings created en plein-aire which are influenced by a sensitivity to abstraction. In this musical, Alexander has just received the really bad news that his family is moving thousands of miles away to a new city. CSM Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery: Marcia Wolfson Ray “In Translation.” Oct. 12 to Nov. 6. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Marcia Wolfson Ray's uses materials she collects from the fields and marshes of Maryland's Eastern Shore to create sculptures of natural geography. Many of her pieces were constructed outdoors and although they appear to be delicate or fragile they have a strength and durability that withstands years of moving from place to place. CSM Cause Theatre: “The Bright Blue Mailbox Suicide Note.” 7:30 p.m., Oct. 15; 8 p.m., Oct. 16; 2 p.m. Oct. 17. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata Campus, Fine Arts (FA) Building, Theatre, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Jake finds an unaddressed suicide note in his mailbox but doesn't know who it's from. He goes on a crusade to find the note's author but instead stumbles upon a secret he never wanted to know. $5, all ages.
